Counselling & EMDR

Counselling provides dedicated time and space to focus on you. Whether you are looking to better understand yourself, work through difficult experiences, improve your relationships, recover from trauma, or make meaningful changes in your life, therapy can help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Starting therapy can bring up a range of emotions. You may feel nervous about opening up, uncertain about what to expect, or hopeful that things can change. My aim is to offer a warm, non-judgemental environment where you can talk openly about your experiences, explore what has been difficult, and feel genuinely heard and understood.

I am a Relationship, Trauma and EMDR Therapist based in Maldon, Chelmsford, Essex. I offer both in-person counselling and online therapy for adults across the UK. My approach is compassionate, structured, and tailored to your individual needs, creating a safe space to explore your experiences, process challenges, and support lasting growth and healing.

I work with a range of issues, including relationship difficulties, trauma, PTSD, burnout, depression, bereavement, stress, anxiety, and the emotional impact of gynaecological conditions. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), an evidence-based therapy that can help people process traumatic experiences and reduce their ongoing impact.

Getting Started

When you get in touch, we can arrange a free 10–15 minute telephone consultation to discuss what you are looking for from therapy and answer any questions you may have. If you already feel ready to begin, we can arrange an initial appointment straight away.

During our first session, we will explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss relevant aspects of your personal history, and consider any current difficulties or symptoms you may be experiencing. Just as importantly, we will take time to consider whether we feel comfortable working together, as a strong therapeutic relationship is an important part of effective therapy.

We will also discuss practical arrangements, including the most suitable day and time for ongoing sessions, and whether counselling, EMDR therapy, or a combination of approaches may be most helpful for your goals.

Everyone has difficult times in their lives. Our past and current experiences impact on how we respond to them. This in turn impacts on your today, how you feel and what the future looks like.

Counselling can aid you by taking into account all areas of your past, present and future, by helping you find the pathway through the difficulties.

My Approach

My Approach

I am Holly Coker, a therapist offering counselling and EMDR therapy in Maldon, Chelmsford, Essex, as well as online across the UK. I work with adults experiencing trauma, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, burnout, life transitions, and women's health-related challenges. My aim is to provide a supportive and professional space where you can better understand yourself, process difficult experiences, and create meaningful and lasting change.

I offer a calm, compassionate, and steady therapeutic space where you can explore your experiences at a pace that feels right for you. Therapy is not about rushing towards solutions; it is about creating the time and space to understand yourself more deeply, make sense of your experiences, and find a way forward that feels authentic and sustainable.

There may be times when life feels overwhelming, and you find yourself carrying more than you know how to manage. You may feel stuck in repeating patterns, struggling in relationships, living with the impact of trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or feeling disconnected from the person you once were. Perhaps past experiences continue to influence how you see yourself, others, and the world around you.

In our work together, you will have a safe, non-judgemental space where these experiences can be explored with care and curiosity. Alongside empathy and understanding, I will gently challenge unhelpful patterns where appropriate, helping you develop greater awareness, insight, and choice in your life.

My approach is integrative, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs. I believe that understanding both our past and present experiences can help us make sense of our emotions, relationships, and the difficulties we face today. By exploring these experiences together, we can begin to understand the beliefs, coping strategies, and patterns that may no longer be serving you.

I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy that can help people process and recover from traumatic experiences, distressing memories, anxiety, and other difficulties linked to past events. Where appropriate, EMDR can be integrated into our work to support healing and lasting change.

My aim is to help you develop a kinder relationship with yourself, strengthen your emotional wellbeing, and create meaningful changes that support the life you want to live.
